Overview

ShopChopCook ("we", "our", "us") is a meal planning tool that helps you combine recipes into a unified shopping list, mise en place checklist, and cook schedule. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. ShopChopCook is operated from the United States.

Information We Collect

Account information

If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address from your Google account. If you sign in with your phone number, we collect that phone number solely to verify your identity via a one-time SMS code. We use this information solely to identify your account and associate your saved plans with you.

Plans created before signing in

If you use ShopChopCook before signing in, your plans are stored anonymously. When you sign in or create an account, any plans you created during that session are automatically linked to your account.

Recipe data

When you submit a recipe URL, our servers retrieve publicly available content from that page and extract structured recipe information (ingredients, preparation steps, cooking times) in order to generate your meal plan. This extracted recipe content is used only during generation and is not stored in our database. Only the AI-generated outputs — your shopping list, prep checklist, and cook schedule — are saved so you can access them later. The original recipe text is discarded once generation is complete.

Usage data

We use Plausible Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Plausible is a privacy-friendly analytics tool that does not use cookies, does not track you across sites, and does not collect personal information. Aggregate usage statistics (such as page views and referrers) are collected anonymously. Standard server logs (including IP address, request timestamps, and request metadata) may also be retained for security, abuse prevention, and debugging purposes for up to 30 days.

How We Use Your Information

• To generate your meal plans using the Anthropic Claude AI service
• To save and retrieve your plans across sessions
• To associate plans with your account when you are signed in

Recipe content and cooking instructions are sent to the Anthropic Claude API to generate shopping lists, preparation steps, and cook schedules. This data is transmitted transiently and is not retained by us after generation completes. We do not send your account name, email address, or other personal identifying information to Anthropic.

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Third-Party Services

ShopChopCook relies on the following third-party services to operate:

• Amazon Web Services (AWS) — hosting, compute, and database storage. Subject to the AWS Privacy Notice.
• Plausible Analytics — privacy-friendly, cookieless website analytics. No personal data or cookies are used. Subject to the Plausible Privacy Policy.
• Anthropic — AI generation of meal plans. Recipe and ingredient data is sent to Anthropic's API to produce results. Subject to the Anthropic Privacy Policy.
• Google — optional sign-in via Google OAuth. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
• Twilio — SMS delivery for phone number verification codes. Your phone number is transmitted to Twilio to send the verification SMS. Subject to the Twilio Privacy Policy.

Data Retention

Saved plans may be automatically deleted after 30 days of account inactivity. Account information may be retained longer to allow you to log in again. You may delete your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. ShopChopCook is hosted on Amazon Web Services and uses industry-standard encryption (HTTPS) to protect data in transit. However, no system can guarantee absolute security.

Cookies

We use a single secure, HTTP-only authentication cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our analytics provider, Plausible, is cookieless and does not set any cookies.

Children's Privacy

ShopChopCook is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted by updating the date at the top of this page.
